Life as a Camp Support Services Coordinator

Fresh Air Camps is hiring Camp Support Services Coordinators to provide care to campers at our six overnight summer camps in beautiful Hudson Valley, NY. Spend your summer supporting campers in a vibrant camp community dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences for NYC underserved youth.

Camp Support Services Coordinators are key members of the camp leadership team, dedicated to supporting campers’ behavioral, emotional, and mental health needs. They help staff with problem-solve strategies for working with campers experiencing challenging emotions or behaviors and assist with group dynamics and conflict resolution.

This role serves as a vital liaison between counselors, Village Leaders, parents, and camp leadership to ensure clear communication and collaborative support so that every camper can thrive and have a fun, successful summer.

This position requires living onsite at camp from June 15 to August 15, 2026, semi-private adult housing and meals provided. Compensation for this role is $3,000 to $3,300 for the summer.

The Camp Support Services Coordinator reports to the Camp Director.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support staff in managing camper behavior concerns by reviewing daily camper reports and offering hands-on coaching and guidance.
  • Provide immediate, in-the-moment support to staff during difficult situations and assist in resolving conflicts between campers.
  • Work one-on-one with campers who need additional support, implementing and communicating individualized behavior plans or contracts.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with counselors, Village Leaders, and administrative staff about camper well-being, behaviors, and progress.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians by phone to provide updates on camper experiences and progress, coordinating with Village Leaders and Administrative staff.
  • Meet regularly with the Support Services Manager and fellow coordinators for supervision, reflection, and problem-solving.
  • Notify the Camp Director and Support Services Manager of any concerns regarding camper mental health, physical health, or overall well-being.
  • Keep detailed documentation of interventions, incidents, and communications.
  • Participate in activities with villages that require additional support (e.g., hikes, overnights, swimming, or transitions).
  • Support administrative processes by collecting paperwork and following up on documentation.
  • Accompany campers who are leaving camp early during their travel back to the New York City office.
  • Develop and lead workshops for staff on behavior management and strategies for addressing challenging camper behaviors.
  • Collaborate with the Camp Director, Assistant Director, and Program Directors on daily operational needs.
  • Prioritize camper needs when making decisions and uphold a camper-first philosophy.
  • Participate actively in the camp community — including campfires, overnights, hikes, swimming, and village meetings. (Some lifting or physical activity may be required.)
  • Communicate, model, and uphold camp policies, traditions, and community standards.
  • Ensure the safety, supervision and well-being of all campers at all times.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and approachability, maintaining healthy boundaries, and avoiding fraternization with general staff while on/off duty.
  • Serve as a role model for campers and staff by showing enthusiasm, empathy, and commitment to camp values.
  • Live and work in a communal camp environment — including shared cabins, limited privacy, and group dining. Time off during each session will be scheduled by the supervisor.
  • Care for and responsibly use camp facilities, property, and equipment.
  • Be familiar with and follow all emergency and safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the camp community.
