Maintenance Assistant, Sharpe Reservation
Fresh Air Camps | Hudson Valley, NY | June 11 – August 15, 2026 

The Fresh Air Fund also owns and operates the Sharpe Reservation which houses five of the six Fresh Air Camps, the Sharpe Reservation Environmental Center which serves over 18,000 visitors each year. The Fresh Aid Fund also operates Camp Junior, a camp for young people from the Bronx in Harriman State park.

The Fresh Air Fund is recruiting maintenance assistants for our summer programs. Maintenance assistants work up to 30 hours per week, this includes regular weekend work. Summer season begins in July and goes on until August with the potential for additional work in the Fall. 

The Fresh Air Fund is seeking several hard working, personable, and detail-oriented individuals with excellent communication skills to serve as summer maintenance assistants. Maintenance assistants support the full-time maintenance team by performing day to day maintenance. A current driver’s license is preferred. 

Responsibilities

Maintenance assistants work under the supervision of the Facilities Manager. They help with all aspects of maintenance. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Mow, rake, and cut grass.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the grounds through daily trash pickup and removal.
• Perform grounds equipment and vehicle maintenance. 
• Support in the maintenance of roads and driveways.
• Assists in pool maintenance.
• Make minor building repairs.
• Perform minor tasks of a semiskilled nature such as carpentry, screen repair, painting, plumbing, and minor electrical maintenance if needed. 
• Assists full time Maintenance Technicians.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

• Age: Must be at least 16+ years of age.
• Personal: Must be in good general health, able to lift heavy objects and perform basic manual work on a regular basis.
• Must have the ability to be flexible and adjust to changes quickly.
• Must have the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Handle concerns/issues in a constructive manner.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficient with basic computer skills. 
• Previous experience as a groundskeeper is preferred but not required. 
• Driver’s license required.  

Employment period: Summer employment extends from June to August, with the potential for September hours. There is a mandatory orientation.

• Hours per week: Varies; maximum 30 hours.
• Compensation: Salary starts at $16.50 per hour
