Role Overview
Fresh Air Camps is hiring Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses to join the medical teams at our six summer camps in beautiful Hudson Valley, NY. Spend your summer providing essential care to a vibrant camp community dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences for NYC underserved youth. Reporting to the Director of Health and Safety, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the health and safety of campers and staff while enjoying the unique environment of overnight camp.
This position requires living onsite at camp from June 11 – August 15, 2026, private housing and meals provided. Compensation for this role is $1,300 to $1,400 per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer medications and provide medical treatment to campers and staff as needed.
- Assess medical needs, provide emergency care, and make referrals to medical facilities or specialists.
- Conduct physical screenings for all staff and campers upon arrival.
- Maintain accurate medical records and logs for all treatments and medications including paper and electronic records in database.
- Ensure the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of camp facilities, including the kitchen, dining hall, bathrooms, and cabins by monitoring and reporting any issues.
- Follow standing orders issued by the Medical Director and report serious matters to the Director of Health and Safety.
- Communicate with parents and The Fresh Air office regarding camper health as necessary.
- Handle mandated reports for serious incidents or illnesses per Department of Health guidelines.
- Participate in camp orientation and training and assist with general camp programs as much as possible.
- Be on-call during camp hours, except during scheduled time off.
- Care for and responsibly use camp facilities, property, and equipment.
- Be familiar with and follow all emergency and safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the camp community.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in New York State, or be willing to obtain a temporary license prior to June 2026.
- Open to out-of-state nurses or nursing graduates eligible to take the State Board of Nursing Exam by September 1.
- B.S. in nursing preferred; minimum of AA degree required.
- Current CPR certification and Responding to Emergencies certification (or willingness to participate in provided certification courses).
- At least one year of nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics.
- Strong assessment skills and the ability to work in a structured residential setting.
- Available for the entire summer program duration.

As new public health issues arise, The Fresh Air Fund may require additional vaccinations. Proof of vaccination or an approved exemption will be required as a condition of employment.
Compensation
- Compensation is $1,300 to $1,400 per week, commensurate with experience.
